Crestron Brings DigitalMediaTM Lab to Las Vegas
Posted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014
Industry-first testing lab demos how DM® meets the challenges of 4K distribution.

Las Vegas, NV, June 18, 2014 – Every day in the DigitalMedia Lab, Crestron’s engineers rigorously test 4K products to ensure they work in a matrix-switched environment. Now, Crestron brings the most exciting portions of our DM Lab to InfoComm14 in Las Vegas, June 18 – 20. Attendees can stop by booth C7008 to see the technology that set the standard for 4K testing and certification, while learning how DM switching and the right cabling solutions solve the challenges typically associated with 4K signal distribution.

How DM tames the Wild West of 4K
“Today, 4K is a bit like the Wild West,” said Justin Kennington, Crestron DigitalMedia Technology Manager. “Some products simply don’t work together like they should. Our unique combination of technology and testing overcomes those challenges and makes 4K distribution a reality.”

In the DM Lab demonstration, attendees see how even 4K source and display devices from respected manufacturers don’t always work together over HDMI®. A premium source connected directly to a name-brand display results in no signal. Hands-on testing with an Agilent digital signal analyzer shows the signal integrity problems. What’s more, connecting the devices through DigitalMedia not only drastically improves the test results, but, more importantly, delivers an image to the display.

The only cable error-free at 4K
Crestron also teaches attendees how to measure the number of errors introduced in a given length of cable. Showcasing exclusive new cable that beats the “under 1 bit error per billion” specification required by HDMI, even at distances of 100m, Crestron establishes itself as the clear leader in cabling infrastructure for 4K video.

Testing devices so you don’t have to
The DM Lab demo gives integrators a better understanding of the inner workings of Crestron’s certification program and demonstrates the importance of 4K certification to manufacturers, integrators, and end users.

“Back when HDMI was first introduced to the industry, a lot of manufacturers and integrators struggled to get sources and displays to work properly together,” Kennington said. “Now, 1080p works perfectly in nearly every situation. We didn’t want the industry as a whole to experience those same growing pains with 4K. Crestron is testing 4K devices so you don’t have to.”
