AMSTERDAM, 12-16 September, IBC 2008 –Autoscript, a Vitec Group brand and the worlds leading teleprompting company, has again proven its reputation for innovation and customer focus, this time in partnership with leading independent production company Endemol UK.
Autoscript has designed and built a set of lightweight TFT screens for specific use on Endemol UK’s production of Channel 4’s Big Brother, Big Brother’s Big Mouth and Big Brother’s Little Brother to overcome problems associated with more heavyweight versions.
The units, dubbed Miniscript 5.6", are proving so successful during the three month series that they now form a regular part of the Autoscript product line and will be premiered at IBC2008.
Previous recent productions of Big Brother had used off-the-shelf units which suffered from occasional power-glitches and dangerous moments of black-out especially when used with the handheld cameras associated with Big Brother’s live Friday eviction nights and Big Brother’s Little Brother’s live studio presentation.
Additionally prompting can infringe on the camera operators maneuverability because of the added weight on the front of the camera if it is handheld.
Brian Larter, Worldwide Managing Director, Autoscript, explained, “Endemol and its facility partner Roll to Record had two issues to overcome. The first was unwanted power-downs in off-the-shelf kit which simply isn’t fit for the rigours of broadcast. Secondly they needed lightweight units to aid the camera team. That product didn’t exist. So we built it – in three weeks.”
Autoscript’s rental division supplied the production with two new lightweight 5.6” TFT screens for Big Brother’s Little Brother accompanying three Winplus Studio Systems. Up to three operators were also supplied by Autoscript for the show’s production plus a range of 8 and 15” TFTs.
Kevin Mason, Series Technical Director said: "We required a light yet rugged solution for Endemol's Little Brother production. Autoscript’s response was fast and effective with the package being neat and finished to a high standard"
Larter added, “Our policy at Autoscript is never to offer off-the-shelf re-packaged solutions, but bespoke broadcast quality solutions.”
He added, “Autoscript is a customer focused operation which aims to service the long term provision of prompting within the broadcast industry. We believe this can only be gained from working closely with productions. Very often that means delivering a tailored rental solution which responds to the unique demands of individual productions.”
"The true value of such an approach to business has been illustrated with Endemol. We listen to the customer, invest in the R&D and if we do our job right we can realise it as a product for everyone.”
The Miniscript 5.6 has all the functions of its larger TFT cousins including XLR, composite BNC and hirose inputs yet weighs just 480g.
